Overview
Pet Translator (com.pettranslator.app) is an entertainment app that turns
short pet video clips into humorous, shareable translations. Each translation pairs your
clip with pre-recorded catalog audio and synchronized captions — not AI-generated
dialogue from your video frames.
We do not require an account or sign-in. The app is not medical or behavioral advice — it is for fun only.
How translation works
When you translate a clip, the app selects a random item from a local catalog of MP3 audio files and matching SRT caption files. Catalog content ships inside the app and can be refreshed in the background when you are online and a newer catalog version is available. Your clip is not sent to our servers for analysis or dialogue generation.
Information we collect
Device permissions
Depending on how you use the app, you may grant access to:
- Camera — to record pet clips
- System photo picker — to choose one existing video. We do not request access to your full photo or video library
- Microphone — only if required by your device for video capture
You can revoke permissions in your device settings at any time. Some features will not work without the relevant permission.
Catalog sync
When the app checks for catalog updates, it contacts our public catalog service over HTTPS. Requests typically include standard network metadata (such as IP address and user agent) and the app’s known catalog version so the server can return the correct manifest and asset URLs. We do not receive your clips, photos, or translation history through this service.
Advertising
The app shows ads through Google AdMob, including banner, interstitial, rewarded, native, and app-open formats. AdMob and its partners may collect or receive device and advertising identifiers, coarse location, ad interaction data, and similar signals to deliver, measure, and limit ads. In production builds, we use Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to gather consent where required before personalized ads are requested.
Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used — for example, ad engagement thresholds and lifecycle events such as first video creation, sharing, saving, and install age. In production, Firebase Analytics consent mode is tied to your UMP choices where applicable. Analytics does not receive your video clips or full photo library.
What we do not collect or store on our servers
- Your full video clips or photo library
- Still images extracted from your clips for AI or vision analysis
- Exported shareable videos
- Translation history or local playback state
- Your name, email, or account credentials (no end-user accounts)
- An anonymous device identifier for daily usage limits or quotas
We do not use third-party AI inference to analyze your clip frames or generate dialogue text for translations. Catalog audio is pre-authored and downloaded or bundled with the app.
Information stored on your device
The app keeps data locally so you can view results, replay, re-export, or share:
- Paths to your clip and exported video files
- Recent translation history (catalog item used, export metadata, and related session data)
- Cached catalog manifest, MP3 audio, and SRT caption files
- App preferences and ad/analytics consent state managed by the OS and Google SDKs
Local history lives in the app’s storage and is limited to a small number of recent items. It is removed when you uninstall the app or if the operating system clears app data. History is not synced to our cloud.
To keep a permanent copy of an export, use Save to gallery or your device’s share options.
How we use information
- Deliver catalog audio and captions for translations
- Sync catalog updates when a newer version is available
- Show and measure ads (subject to your consent choices)
- Understand app usage and improve reliability through analytics
- Operate and protect the service (e.g. abuse prevention, reliability)
We do not sell your personal information.
Third-party services
Pet Translator relies on external providers to operate. We describe their role in general terms below. Each provider processes data according to its own privacy policy.
Cloudflare (catalog delivery and this policy site)
Our public catalog API (Cloudflare Worker), catalog asset storage (R2), and this privacy policy page (Cloudflare Pages) run on Cloudflare’s edge network. Catalog requests may include version metadata and standard connection logs. Catalog assets (MP3 and SRT files) are public to the app; they do not contain your personal media.
Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform (UMP)
AdMob serves ads in the app and may use device identifiers and ad signals as described in Google’s ads policies. UMP collects and records your consent choices for ads and related purposes where required by law. You can change ad personalization choices through UMP when offered and through your device’s advertising settings.
Firebase Analytics (Google)
Firebase Analytics receives event data about app usage, including ad and lifecycle events configured for this product. Consent for analytics storage in production builds is aligned with UMP consent signals where applicable.
App distribution — Google Play
If you install the app from Google Play, Google’s terms and privacy practices apply to download, updates, payments (if any), and your Play account data. The store listing is also our primary support contact channel for privacy questions.
Data retention
| Data | Where | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Video clips and exports | Your device | Until you delete files, clear app data, or uninstall |
| Translation history | Your device | Until you clear app data or uninstall |
| Cached catalog assets | Your device | Updated on sync; removed on uninstall |
| Catalog sync requests | Cloudflare (Worker / edge logs) | Per Cloudflare’s logging and retention practices |
| Ad and consent signals | Google (AdMob / UMP) | Per Google’s policies and your choices |
| Analytics events | Google (Firebase) | Per Firebase / Google Analytics retention settings |
Children’s privacy
Pet Translator is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us using the support channel on the app’s store listing and we will take appropriate steps.
Security
We use HTTPS for network communication (catalog sync, ads, and analytics). Catalog credentials and admin access are kept server-side and are not exposed in the public app. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we work to protect data within reasonable industry practices for a consumer entertainment app.
Your choices
- Stop using translation features at any time
- Revoke camera permission in device settings
- Clear app data or uninstall to remove local history and cached catalog files
- Save exports to gallery only when you want a permanent copy
- Manage ad personalization via UMP when shown, and via your device’s advertising or Google ad settings where available
- Limit ad tracking using your device’s “Opt out of Ads Personalization” or equivalent setting (behavior may vary by region and SDK)
International users
Our service may be operated from infrastructure in various regions. By using the app, you understand that processing may occur where our hosting, ad, and analytics providers operate, subject to this policy and their respective terms.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
